Get Involved

We are often looking for volunteers interested in learning more about clinical psychology and in some of the basic processes of emotion and motivation. If you would like to learn more about getting involved as a research assistant in our lab contact Dr. Gard at dgard@sfsu.edu.

Assistants typically volunteer 10 hours per week, attend weekly lab meetings, and are assigned to work on one or more ongoing studies. In addition to gaining foundational research skills, this lab is dedicated to aiding lab members' professional development skills as they make decisions about their career paths and graduate study.

Dr. Gard is is the Coordinator of the Clinical Psychology Program Master’s Program, which is primarily a practice-oriented program. However there is an optional research-track available where students can complete research work while in the program. Dr. Gard has also worked directly with graduate students in all psychology disciplines (e.g., Mind Brain and Behavior, Social Personality and Affective, Developmental, etc.). The typical path for graduate students is to work on an on-going project in their first year and then develop their Master's Thesis project for their second year. If you are interested in learning more about being a graduate student in Dr. Gard’s lab, send an email to: dgard@sfsu.edu.

...or just hearing more about what we do, email Dr. Gard (at dgard@sfsu.edu) with information about yourself, including clinical and research interests, time availability, year in school, and any questions you have. Dr. Gard will email you back to let you know if we have any openings.
